WINDOWS CHANGE COLOR FOR CONTINUOUS VISUAL MONITORING OF SURFACE TEMPERATURES FROM -22°F TO 248°F (-30°C TO 120°C)

Telatemp liquid crystal thermometers indicate the current temperature with a color change to green for the rated temperature ±2°F (±1°C). Each liquid crystal is formulated for a specific temperature response. The liquid crystal material is a twisted crystalline structure which expands and contracts as the temperature changes. Light is reflected by this structure and as it twists and untwists the color of the reflected light changes. This crystalline slurry is screened onto a black backing which permits the best viewing of the color changes. So unless the temperature is within the range of the liquid crystal material, the indicating window is black.

As it warms to the response temperature the window starts with a reddish-brown and continues to change to green (the color of the rated temperature) and may warm further to blue and again to black. The colors are seen in reverse as the temperature cools.

These adhesive-backed liquid crystal thermometers have many real-world applications that include room or refrigerator thermometers, body temperatures, optimum processing or operating temperatures, hot warning labels, thermal profiling, etc. Custom requirements are invited.

Telatemp Liquid Crystal Temperature Indicating sheets measure 12" x 12" and can be ordered with or without adhesive backing. Standard ranges are 20-25°C, 25-30°C, 35-40°C and 40-45°C. The entire sheet goes through the reddish/brown to blue color span with black visible outside the range of the sheet. Applications include heat transfer studies, energy surveys, flow visualization, infrared beam profiling and fault/short location in electric components and electronic circuits.
